What XML Is Not: Incomplete Markup

It is very rare for all the potential information in a document to be marked up. Later uses of the data often require revision or enhancement of the markup. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, rather:

  • language is rich in meaning,

  • we have incomplete knowledge of the future, and

  • economics: there's a limit to what we can afford.
